Margie Skinner Pierce, 88, of Gainesville passed away, December 4, 2020, after a brief illness.
Margie was born in a log cabin, in Forsyth County, Georgia, on May 28, 1932. She was the daughter of Herschel Landrum Skinner (1899-1964), and Viola Villyard Skinner (1898-1982). She attended Gainesville High School, and graduated from Lula High School, in the class of 1950. She was voted "Most Beautiful", and "Friendliest", by her fellow classmates. These two honors were evident, even before the vote was taken. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta to attend the Harrison-Draughn School of Business, graduating in 1952.
She began her career with Pilgrim-Estes Furniture Co. She went to work for the J.D. Jewell Co. in 1965, serving as Secretary for Mr. Jewell, and Vice President, Ben Carter. She worked for the City of Gainesville Parks and Recreation Dept., Home Federal Savings and Loan, and First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, where she served as Secretary to the Senior Pastor.
She met the love of her life, Cohen Pierce, a young city policeman, in the summer of 1952. He saw her on the Square, one day, and knew she was "the one". They were married on June 26, 1953, and enjoyed over sixty-seven years of happiness. God blessed each of them very richly, every day of their lives, together. Margie is survived by her husband, James Cohen Pierce, son, Jeff Pierce, and his wife, Gayla, whom she loved as a daughter, and the most wonderful granddaughter in the world, McKinney Pierce. Words cannot express how she will be missed by those who knew and loved her. We are all better because of her presence in our lives.
