Lois Ann Long, formally of Huntsville, Alabama and Oakwood, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30th at the age of 88. Born to Katie Lou and Daniel Cawthorn in 1932, Lois spent most of her life in Georgia, graduating from Cairo High School, attending Tift College, and graduating from Auburn University. She married her high school sweetheart, William Long, in 1952, and together they went on to Mercer University and then Southeastern Theological Seminary where Brother Bill studied for the ministry. Lois supported her husband as a pastor’s wife, Sunday School teacher, and elementary school teacher for 30 years while raising her daughters, Diane and Gloria.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband whom she loved dearly for over 68 years, she is survived by her two children, Diane Long Blocker (Wayne), and Gloria Long Gilmore (Taylor). In addition, she was blessed with four grandchildren: Daniel Blocker (Brittany), Anna Blocker Smith (Jason), Scott Davis (Katherine), Patrick Davis (Whitney), and five great grandchildren; Grace Ann, MAC, and Elizabeth Blocker, and Ruthanne and Rebekah Davis.
Lois will be remembered for her commitment to her many Sunday School classes, her dedication to her students at W. C Britt in Snellville, Georgia as a 5th grade teacher where she sent the majority of her career, and her love of family. Blessed with wonderful relationships as Mama/Mema to her grandchildren, the family is celebrating the many wonderful memories of special times and laughter.
Lois will be buried at Memorial Park in Gainesville, Georgia alongside her husband, Bill, who passed away on November 10, 2020. Due to COVID restrictions, a spring memorial service will be planned at a later date.
