Gene Ross Logan

Obituary Date: Wednesday, November 25, 2020

Gene Ross Logan died unexpectedly at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA on November 25, 2020 at the age of 80 years and 9 months.

Gene is survived by his wife Sandra Kay (Spicer) Logan; two daughters, Kimberly (Bill) Allen and Piper (Ric) Yarnall of Lawrenceville, GA and his sister, Linda J. Gibson of Puyallup, WA; five grandchildren, David (Laura) Jordan, Jamie (Brandon) Booth, Kendall (Andrew) Taylor, Ryan and Haley Yarnall; and five great-grandchildren, Edith and Jonas Jordan; Blakelyn, Laurel, and Kayleigh Booth. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) Clyde Logan and Willa Ross Johnson.

Gene Ross Logan was born on March 12, 1940 in Alva, Oklahoma to Willa and Robert Logan. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1958 in Kiowa, Kansas and enlisted in the Air Force shortly after graduation. He served for 4.5 years part of that time in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. Gene married Sandi Spicer November 2, 1963. After moving to Wichita, Gene began working for Martin Marietta and from there transitioned to employment with General Electric’s NASA Apollo program for 5 years. Over the next 25 years the couple moved extensively. They chose to retire on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA in 1996.

Gene’s children and grandchildren remember him as a kind, generous and supportive “Papa” who encouraged them to pursue their life goals and actions with others with dignity, respect and a good work ethic. Gene was a supportive, loving, and hardworking husband who loved his family and always wanted to ensure their safety and well-being. His best friend said of him that “he was an intelligent man that loved to have some fun!” Gene was an accomplished businessman with General Electric’s Apparatus Service Division for 30 years.

He did consulting and business planning for smaller companies in retirement. He was passionate about his work ethic and believed that “a person should be faithful to follow a thing through and do the right thing, the right way.” Gene was an active member of the Hall County Civil Service Board, and a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners.

Gene enjoyed watching and playing golf and entertaining family and friends. He traveled extensively in his career but loved his boyhood hometown and retirement communities. On trips home, friends rehashed youthful antics growing up in Kiowa. All of his many childhood friends thoroughly enjoyed Gene’s storytelling skills which he embellished with easy going humor and quick wit. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
