Mary Jo Farmer

Miss Mary Jo Farmer age 95 of Toccoa, passed away November 25, 2020 at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia following a brief illness.

A daughter of the late Joseph Hansel and Emma Elizabeth Brown Farmer, she was born June 28, 1925 in Stephens County, Georgia where she lived all of her life. She was the last surviving member of her 12 brothers and sisters. She was also the last known survivor of the Mountain Grove community at Currahee Mountain. She was a long time active member of Tom’s Creek Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Luther, George and Bill Farmer and sisters Zelia Mae Anderson, Montine Rumsey and Madeline Farmer.

Survivors include niece and nephews, longtime devoted best friend, Mrs. Annie Jim Ayers with whom she made her home for the last several months and her family, special neighbor, Mrs. Dorothy Smith and many cousins.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 2 P.M. at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Micah Lane and the Reverend Wayne Marcus officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Zachary Grafton, Ken Todd, Mark Adams, Jody DeFoor, Bobby Hobgood and Ronny Farmer                                                                

The family will receive friends at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church from 1 P.M. until the service time Due to the health and well-being of our community, social distancing must be observed. Masks are encouraged but not required. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.                                                       

Interment will follow in Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Miss Mary Jo Farmer.
