Mary Betty Mann Herrington went home to Jesus on November 5, 2020 at age 76.
Betty was born to Woodrow and Ellavie Mann on September 4, 1944 in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from Brown High School in 1962, and continued her studies at the University of Georgia.
Betty met her husband, Jefferson Derrell Herrington, Jr. while they were both working at Sears Roebuck & Co. in 1963. They married a year later on November 7, 1964, and went on to have two children, Angela and Stephanie. They moved their family to Wilmington Island in Savannah, GA in 1974.
Betty spent 11 years providing daycare to lots of children from the islands. She loved each of them dearly and enjoyed opening her home to the love and laughter that so many of them brought to her through the years. In the late eighties, Betty decided to follow her passion, and get back into the business world. She assisted in the publication and marketing of a book by the renowned photographer, Jack Leigh. She then moved on to develop, coordinate and manage successful campaigns for three politicians. She also had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors at Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
In addition to being a dedicated mother, Betty also served on the Board of Directors for the Savannah Homeless Authority, served as a representative for Chatham County at the South Georgia Coastal Planning Authority, and held various volunteer roles at Wilmington Island UMC. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
After relocating back to the Atlanta area, Betty just could not retire and take it easy. She continued working in various accounting roles at DATAPATH, Inc., Novoste Corporation, Beazer Homes and A1 Signs. She loved working and being closer to her girls and family.
Upon hearing about her passing, one of her best friends wrote, “Betty was one of a kind, and ONE OF A KIND SHE WAS!!! We know beyond a doubt that she is in heaven showing the angels exactly how things should be done!” Forever in our hearts…
GO DAWGS!!!
Betty joins her parents, Woodrow and Ellavie, her husband Jeff, her brother, Jimmy, and her niece Michelle Flint in Heaven.
