Florene Brown

Mrs. Florene V. Brown, age 91, of Gainesville passed away Friday, October 30, 2020.

Mrs. Brown was born in Lumpkin County on January 3, 1929 to the late Charlie and Carrie Couch McDonald. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Brown was a strong-willed lady. She lost her husband, Jimmy Brown, in 1961 and from then she raised her three boys by herself. Preceding her in death were several of her siblings and most recently her son Hugh Anthony Brown. “Granny Brown” was what her grandchildren lovingly called her. Mrs. Brown loved gardening and working in her flowers, and she was an amazing cook.

Survivors include her sons Doug Brown, Gainesville, and Kenneth Brown, Lula; sisters Frances Sullens, Murrayville, and Charlotte Hewell, Commerce; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Jimmy Grizzle, Gainesville; and five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Bernice Collins and the Rev. Floyd Higdon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Brown’s wishes were to be cremated after the service.
