Joe Tom McEntire, Jr.

Obituary Date: Friday, October 23, 2020

Joe Tom McEntire Jr. age 93, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, passed away on October 23, 2020. A service celebrating his life will be held at Saturday 11 a.m. November 7, 2020 in chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Joe dearly loved his family and is survived by his daughter Carolyn Stover, Son Tommy McEntire, Grandchildren Brian Greene, Kristen Bruce, Jessica Queen, Chelsey Tilman, Drew McEntire and his 7 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nancy McEntire, wife Doris McEntire and brother Bill McEntire. Joe joined the Navy August 14th, 1945 and served as a Seaman Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Gearing DD 710 in WWII. After his discharge he received Mechanical and Electrical degrees. Joe went on to work for Georgia Public Television for 40+ years. When he retired from Georgia Public Television, he went on to work for the State Capitol for 10 more years.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to travel. A few of his favorite places were Hawaii, Florida Beaches and the mountains. He loved the outdoors, lake, fishing, camping, yardwork, picking apples in the mountains and relaxing by the pool. Joe loved sports as well. He was a big Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. He also boxed when he was in the Navy.

Joe loved the Lord and went to church. He also volunteered when he had the time. He was a member of the Shriners Club and donated every year to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. It was extremely near and dear to his heart.

In addition to his immediate family Joe is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many beloved neighbors and friends.
