Dorothy “Dot” Fields was born December 29, 1935 to the late L.V. Young and Lula Mae Tabor Young, in Gwinnett County, GA. She departed this life on October 22, 2020.
Dorothy was a member of Cross Plain Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until she was called home. Prior to becoming a member at Cross Plain, she was a member at Springfield Baptist Church. There she served as a Deaconess and was a member of the choir. Anyone who knows Dorothy, knows she loved to sing. She was also a member of the well-known note singing group “Class of ‘81”.
One of Dorothy’s passions was sewing, and she was able to make a career of it. She worked at Warren Featherbone of Gainesville, GA, as a master seamstress until she was able to retire. She continued to sew until she was no longer able. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family in any capacity, her love for family will be unmatched and the thing that will be remembered the most.
Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Field, her son, James Michael Riley, stepdaughter: Louise Allen, grandson Terrance Allen, 4 brothers: Josephus Young, Frank Young, Billy Ray Young and Raymond Young, and 2 sisters: Clara Mae Young, and Betty Sue Wilkins.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her son, Wayne Lewis Riley Sr., stepson: Jeffery (Alfreda) Fields. 7 grandchildren: Commetta “Sha” (Brandon) Jackson, Wayne (Brittany) Riley Jr., Keisha Teasley-Branham, Tamika Riley and Martiesa Riley and Chauncey Fields and LeQuita Allen. 1 brother: Harvey “Ted” Young, 4 sisters: Bobbie Nell Dorsey, Mattie Hughes Young, Caroline Strickland and Pearlie Young Mullins. 12 Great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and loving friends.
The Visitation for Mrs. Fields will be Thursday October 29, 2020 at Wimberly Funeral Home between the hours of 12-8pm. Mrs. Dot's Celebration of life will be Friday October 30, 2020 at 1pm at Alta Vista Cemetery. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
