Lucy Jane Thomason Smith, 72, passed away peacefully and around loved ones on Oct. 14, 2020. She finished a lengthy fight with dementia, and overcame challenges with bravery and fearlessness.
Lucy was born on March 30, 1948 in Enterprise, Ala. She attended Enterprise High School and was a member of the marching band. She raised four children in Atlanta, Ga., and worked as a hairdresser at Ray Stevens Salon from 1978-82. Most of Lucy’s career was spent in the film industry as a secretary of treasury and accounting department manager at Production Consultants & Equipment (PC&E) from 1983-2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Hudson Thomason and Esta Johnson Thomason, her sister Phyllis Louise Thomason and her daughter Adrienne Leigh Cleveland. Lucy is survived by three children: Charles Ashley Sudge (Margaret), Steven Hudson Sudge (Melanie) and Loren Smith Swinton (Shawn); brother James Thomason (Judy). Her four nieces and nephews were Beth Edwards, Sarah Catherine Holder (Eric), John Currie (Linda) and Justin Thomason (Dana). Some of Lucy’s truest loves were her six grandchildren — Brandon and Kristen Sudge, Taylor and Lindsey Sudge and Andre and Isabella Swinton.
Lucy represented love, tenderness, kindness and strength in every area of her life. She put her family first, took pride in being a mother and enjoyed nothing more than lending a hand to those around her. She brought light to a room and showed a sense of humor. Lucy could frequently be found talking about Georgia football or yearning to spend time in front of the ocean waves. Lucy was a woman of faith and trusted in it to make it through her toughest days. She stored a series of verses inside of her Bible, and 1 Corinthians 16:14 embodies her truest qualities: “Let all that you do be done in love.” Lucy brought true joy and love to each person’s life she touched. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens (3481 Hamilton Mill Rd., Buford, GA 30519) on October 24, 2020 at 1 p.m.
