Emily Imogene (Jean) Barnes 94, of Dalton, GA formerly of Cornelia, GA went home to be with her Lord on October 6th, 2020.
Mrs. Barnes was born March 2, 1926 in Banks County GA to Dewitt and Eula Corine Ariail.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, GA. She worked for Cornelia Bank for many years until opening Northeast Georgia Fabric Center in Cornelia, GA. Mrs. Barnes was an avid seamstress and pianist and enjoyed baking, gardening and loving on her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dewitt and Corine Ariail, husband James V. Simmons, husband Claude V. Barnes, her brothers William T. Ariail and Horace D. Ariail sister-in-law Martha Ariail and brother-in-law David M Martin, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan Simmons Harden and Randall of Dalton GA, son and daughter-in-law James C. Simmons and Carmen of Charlotte, MI and stepson and daughter-in-law Keith Barnes and Brenda of Cornelia, GA, sister Francine “Keta” Martin of Cornelia, GA, grandchildren Mike Maney of Budapest, Hungary, Karin Maney McGill of Dalton, GA, Jennifer Barnes McDaniel of Griffin, GA, Lorri Barnes Turner of Flowery Branch, GA, Kevin McKeever of Ft. Myers, FL and Katie McKeever Roberts of Traverse City, MI. 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She loved gathering her family around the dinner table, visiting with friends and fellowship with her church family. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Reflections Memory Care, Tranquility of Dalton Senior Living Home, Amedisys Hospice of Dalton GA and Carol Cannon of Dalton, GA and The Oaks of Baldwin GA for their care.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Ministry of Mike and Kelley Maney, checks made payable to “CRU” can be mailed to Mike Maney, 1813 E. Ramble Court, Decatur, GA 30033., or donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Cornelia, GA.
The family respectfully requests that all in attendance adhere to public health and social distancing guidelines.
