Robert “Bobby" Kent Griffin

Obituary Date: Friday, October 16, 2020

Robert “Bobby" Kent Griffin died at the age of 66 on October 16, 2020 at his home in Suwanee, Georgia, surrounded by his wife, Beth, his children, Lanier and Hannah, and Beth's mother, Rosie Dell'Isola after a courageous 2 year battle with prostate cancer.

Bobby was born on October 27, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas, the third of five children born to his parents, Bernard ("Grif") and Dorothy Griffin.   The family eventually settled in Atlanta in 1960 where Bobby attended St. Pius X High School in Atlanta and the University of Georgia in Athens. From a very early age, Bobby loved the outdoors, especially fishing, boating and hunting.  He cherished the time he spent as a youngster hunting and target shooting with his father.  He was also a life-long lover of dogs.  Bobby was an accomplished Quarterback in High School and physically fit throughout his life, often playfully challenging friends and family members to a footrace, even in his sixties.  Bobby loved fishing on Lake Lanier from his bass boat, affectionately named the “Beth-Ann”.  Bobby also developed a passion for scuba diving after taking a trip to Palau with Beth and her family in 1995.  Bobby became known around Lake Lanier as the "Scuba-man” because he was often called to help boaters locate lost valuables at the bottom of Lake Lanier.

Bobby had a successful 35 year career with Construction Materials, Ltd.  His colleagues and clients in the industry were his second family.  Bobby was especially grateful to everyone at Construction Materials, Inc. and his friends in the construction industry for their support during his medical treatments over the last two years.

Bobby's greatest love was his family.  Bobby’s wife, Beth, was the love of his life.  Their love story has lasted nearly 40 years, and they recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.   He was especially proud of his children, Lanier, his favorite golfing partner, and his beloved daughter Hannah, who recently graduated with honors from the University of Georgia.

Bobby and Beth took great pleasure in their frequent trips to the D.C. area to visit the Dell'Isola extended family, their European cruises with extended family, and in particular, their recent trip to Guam and Palau to dive and visit Beth's extended family members.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Dorothy Griffin, and by Beth's father, Alphonse Dell'Isola.  He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth ("Beth") Griffin, his son, Lanier Griffin, his daughter, Hannah Griffin, his sisters, Janet Stone and Kathy Barker (Gage), his brothers, John Griffin (Melinda) and Brad Griffin, Beth's mother, Rosie Dell'Isola, Beth's brothers, Paul Dell'Isola (Miriam), Mark Dell'Isola, David Dell'Isola (Elaine), Beth's sister Marie Barton (Ed), and numerous nieces and nephews.
