Mrs. Peggy Ione Freeman Biggers, 89, of Cleveland passed away October 15, 2020 at home, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Biggers was born on August 29, 1931 in Cleveland to the late Fred and Jessie Freeman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Daniel Lewis Biggers, and her brothers, Paul Freeman, Glen Freeman, Pierce Freeman, Gene Freeman and Jack Freeman.
Survivors include: Son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Charmane Biggers, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law Russell and Laura Biggers, Toccoa; son Nelson Biggers, Cleveland; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Heath and Tasha Biggers, Cleveland; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Dustin and Chelsea Biggers, Cleveland; Granddaughter and grandson-in-law Emilee and Blake Fulbright, Madison; grandson Mason Biggers, Toccoa; grandson and fiancée, Preston Biggers and Madison Turner, Cleveland; sisters Vera Horton, Marietta; Pauline Kinnear, Cleveland; and Yvon Caudell, Cleveland; great grandchildren, Trace Biggers, Cleveland; Lane Biggers, Cleveland; Honor Biggers, Cleveland; Riley Biggers, Cleveland; Wynn Fulbright, Madison; Elijah Biggers, Cleveland and Dolly Biggers, Cleveland, along with several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Biggers graduated from Cleveland High School in 1949, and married the late Daniel Biggers in 1950.  Together, Mr. and Mrs. Biggers farmed the land near Yonah Mountain where they lived, which they cleared in 1951 when they returned to Cleveland.  Beginning with chickens and beef cattle, and later phasing out their chicken production, Mr. and Mrs. Biggers farmed for 58 years. When Mr. Biggers passed away in 2009, Mrs. Biggers continued her involvement in the cattle farm. Mr. and Mrs. Biggers enjoyed square dancing together for many years.

Mrs. Biggers was very involved in politics, and voted in every national, state and local election. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith.

With a strong work ethic and commitment to her family, Mrs. Biggers rarely left her home, and tended the land around it beautifully.  She was happiest at home in her garden, working daylight to dark on her prolific vegetables and lovely flowers. Mrs. Biggers loved to share her garden’s fruits and vegetables with her family and friends, and fed them often at her kitchen table.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the chapel at Barrett Funeral Home, with Mrs. Biggers’ grandson, the Rev. Dustin Biggers, officiating.  Rev. Doug Merck will be officiating the graveside service and Mrs. Frances Hatcher will be giving the eulogy.

Burial will follow at Gateway Memorial Park in Cleveland.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2020.
