Jo Anne Armour Stone

Obituary Date: Tuesday, September 29, 2020

Jo Anne Armour Stone 9-18-48 to 9-29-20

It is with deep regret that the family announces the passing of Jo Stone, age 72, on Tuesday, September 29th after a protracted battle with dementia.  Born in Gastonia, NC, Jo moved to the Gainesville, GA area where she met and married her husband of 54 years, Lloyd “Tony” Stone.  Originally serving as a court reporter for Nathan Deal, Jo pursued and received a degree from North Georgia College.  She wove herself into the business and social fabric of Gainesville amassing various certifications and licenses along the way including RHU, REBC, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF.  She also served on the Board of Trustees of Gainesville College, as President of the Gainesville Branch of the National Association of Life Underwriters, and was a part of the Gainesville Republican party.  She was a founding member of Wallace and Christopher Agency, now CMA Agency, where she worked for most of her professional life.  Eventually, Jo discovered her true calling as a doting grandmother of two grandchildren whom she proceeded to spoil to extremes of rottenness while she was able.

She is survived by her husband Tony Stone; son Bryan (Grace) Stone; grandchildren Drew and Malyn Stone; sisters Laura (George) Posey and Althea Bleckley;  nephews and niece Preston Farr, Britton Posey, and Claire Bleckley; cousins Rita Armour, Debbie Armour, Gail Armour Mullis; and cousin and lifelong best friend Sandra Bragg.

She was preceded in death by her mother Leota Savage, sister Linda Farr, and by her son, Brandon Stone. We assume she had a strong talk with Brandon about getting a haircut as soon as they were reunited.  Jo will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her friends and family.

The family would also like to express a special word of thanks to the caregivers who helped during this challenging time.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Sunday, October 4th at 2:30 PM in the Chapel at Christ Place Church in Oakwood, GA (formerly Blackshear Place Baptist Church).
