Robert “Bob” Lawrence Doyle

Obituary Date: Friday, September 18, 2020

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Doyle of Milton, GA, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020 at the age of 92. He was born on December 12, 1927 in Walnut, IL to William Robert Doyle and Florence Penelope (McMann).

After Bob’s birth, the family made their home in Yonkers, NY, spending summers in Walnut. After graduating from Roosevelt High School (Yonkers), Bob  joined the Army in 1946 and served as an MP in Japan.

Bob later attended Purdue University and graduated with a BSME in 1952. After graduation, Bob joined Carrier Air Conditioning Corp.

Bob married the love of his life, Anne Carol Crapser, on May 14, 1955 in Pleasantville, NY. They quickly started their family as Bob was an only child and hoped for a large family. They celebrated their second wedding anniversary with 3 children in diapers and eventually had 5 children. Bob and Anne were married until Anne's death on December 21, 2013, enjoying over 58 years together.

The Doyle family relocated several times as Bob took on new and more challenging positions at Carrier. They lived in New York City, Newington CT,  Plantation FL, and finally settled in Dunwoody GA. Bob retired from Carrier after 31 years as the National Sales Manager for commercial accounts. In his post-retirement he worked at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church as the Business Office Manager and sold advertisements for Diocesan Publications.

Bob loved any opportunity to meet and talk with new people. Anne used to say that he could strike up a friendly conversation with anyone. Always loving the beach, Bob and Anne built a vacation home at Fripp Island, SC in 1981, retiring there full-time in 1996. Bob was an avid tennis player, playing 3 times a week until the age of 80. He also enjoyed sailing, jogging, swimming, biking, and investing in the stock market. Bob and Anne loved to travel, taking over 20 trips overseas exploring the world. All reinforcing that Bob “never met a stranger”. Bob and Anne returned to Cumming, GA in 2009.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Anne Doyle (2013) and grandson Michael Marland (2003) as well as his daughter-in-law Karyn Doyle (2020).

Bob is survived by his five children: Elizabeth Wright (Jackson's Gap AL, husband Bill), Michael Doyle (Milton GA), Christopher Doyle (Irvine CA), Matthew Doyle (Cumming GA, wife Kat), and Margaret Marland (Pineville NC, husband Ross).

He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren: Kristen Wright (Qais Mirza), Benjamin Wright, Brendan Doyle, Connor Doyle, Casey Santas (Michael), Kylee Cameron (Matt), Kayla Marland, Sarah Marland and his 3 great grandchildren: Augustus Carter Santas, Kiahan Robert Mirza and Audrey Anne Santas.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church and Bob will be buried with military honors at the Georgia National Cemetery (Canton GA).

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in honor of Robert L. Doyle to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis) or Purdue University School of Mechanical Engineering. Please make donations payable to Purdue Foundation, noting School of Mechanical Engineering on your check, and mail to Purdue Foundation, 403 W. Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907.
