Margaret Stephens Orr, age 83, of San Mateo, Florida, formerly of Alto, Georgia, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.
Born on February 2, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Alexander and Margaret Ball Stephens. She worked in the banking industry for 40 years ultimately retiring from the Putnam County Teachers Credit Union in Palatka, Florida. Living in Florida, Margaret loved the ocean, but her heart would always remain in her beautiful North Georgia Mountains. Loved by family and friends, she will always be remembered for her soft, gentle grace and spirit. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church and previously attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Palatka, Florida. Above all, Margaret was a devoted wife and mother.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Orr’s caretakers: Lori Ann Parker, Joan Godwin, and Juanita Hamilton. A special thank you to Haven Hospice-Roberts Care Center, all in Palatka, Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Baker Orr and sisters, Shirley McGehee, Juanita Pless, Mary Strickland, and Brenda Bullock.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Orr of San Mateo, FL; sisters: Catherine Garrison of Pittsburg, PA, Barbara Poole of Lula, and Betty Ann Irvin of Lula; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 27, 2020, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Lula with Rev. Len Land officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
All attending should maintain social distancing and adhere to public health guidelines.
