Paula Hampton, 61, of Lawrenceville, Ga, went peacefully to heaven at home on Saturday, August 29, 2020, surrounded by a family whom she loved so very much. She was born June 30, 1959 on the island of Honshu, on an American Air Force Base. Her parents were Martin L. and Joan R. Johnson.
Paula and her husband, Rev. Ed Hampton, met on a high school graduation trip in June 1977. They dated all four years of college at the University of Georgia, graduated together in June 1981. They were married on September 18, 1982. Paula worked as an interior designer/space planner for several years before starting a family. She stopped working to focus her life on two beautiful children and her family. Paula spent the last 10 years serving and leading Hope For The Journey. This is a local cancer ministry operating out of North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. She loved encouraging and serving others through their challenges of life. Paula was an active member at North Metro Baptist for the last 21 years. She believed that the Holy Scriptures have every promise of God necessary for helping us navigate this life on earth peacefully. She is now living face to face with her savior, Jesus Christ. The greatest promise of all, eternal life by faith in Christ.
Her mother Joan Johnson and her brother Mark Johnson preceded her to her heaven. Her father Martin Johnson resides in Sparta, Tn. Paula is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ed Hampton. Surviving in addition to her husband Ed, are her daughter Lauren Hudson and spouse Jeremy Hudson of Buford, Ga; her son Ben Hampton and spouse Christine Hampton of Atlanta, Ga; Paula has three grandchildren, Isabelle Hudson (7), Savannah Hudson (5), and Eli Hudson (3). She is also survived by her sister Marta Sliger and spouse Van Sliger of Cookeville, TN. Many nieces and nephews are also survivors who will miss her dearly, until the big family reunion in heaven one day.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville at 11:00am on Saturday, September 12. Dr. Frank Cox and Rev. Ed Hampton will be officiating. The family will receive friends at North Metro Baptist on Friday September 11 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ministry Paula loved so much.
