JoAnn Hobby Wallace, 88, of Buford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, after a long and wonderful life. JoAnn was born May 5, 1932 in Ashburn, Georgia to Clyde Redding Hobby, Sr. and Maureen Stephens Hobby. She was preceded in death by her dearly-loved husband of 56 years, William Buice Wallace, her parents Clyde and Maureen Hobby, mother and father in law, Garland Ray and Ruth Buice Wallace, siblings Clyde R. Hobby Jr., Joyce Stevens Engle, and Royce Hobby. She is survived by her children, Billy Wallace, Joy Wallace Ledford, son-in-law Rodney B. Ledford, Grandchildren Benjamin H. Crane, Emily R. Crane and Nicholas C. Henry, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. JoAnn grew up in Ashburn where she was the Ashburn High School state debate champion and played with the state winning basketball team. She attended Mercer University, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. JoAnn and Buice met there and married in 1952, and lived in Ft. Worth Texas for a few years where Buice was stationed in the U.S. Airforce. Afterward, they moved to Buford to join the family business, N.W. Buice & Company, an apparel store located in historic downtown Buford. Buice and JoAnn dedicated their life’s work in the store until their retired in 1986. After which they enjoyed traveling, working in the yard, as well as providing merchandise displays for various local businesses. JoAnn was an avid reader and loved her books for many years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Buford, the Upper Room Sunday School Class, Abundant Life Fellowship, The Silvertones Choir, several bridge clubs and the Red Hat Club. The family would like to acknowledge much appreciation and love to her dedicated and wonderful in-home caregivers, who have lovingly cared for her since 2014. In addition, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the caring and accommodating team at Brandi Crowe Salon in Buford. A Graveside Service will be held at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2020 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA.
