On Friday August 28, 2020, at the age of 88, Lt. Col. Arthur L. Mavis, Jr. passed away at The Resting Nest in Gainesville.
Lt. Col. Mavis was a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, where he served until retirement. He was a graduate of West Point, served as a pilot in Vietnam, and worked as a teacher at The Citadel. In 1996, alongside his beloved wife, he signed on with Habitat for Humanity traveling from state to state to build houses for the less fortunate. Lt. Col. Mavis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, sons, Bruce David Mavis, Michael Mavis, and daughter, Michelle Mavis.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Mavis; a son, Neil James Mavis; grandchildren, Elaine Goodman, Stetson, Sproul, Alston Brown, Everett, Asher, Amanda Mavis; and great grandchildren, Zachary Baldwin, Allison Baldwin, and Cole Goodman.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 5, 2020 at 10 AM at Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
