David DeWayne Sharp

Obituary Date: Friday, August 21, 2020

David DeWayne Sharp, age 58, of Dahlonega died from cancer on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Northside Hospital Forsyth. He was born March 24,1962 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Betty and the late Marvin Kempf and Sally and the late Edward Sharp.

David graduated from Marshalltown High School in Iowa, Class of 1980. Following graduation he enlisted into the United States Army. He was further educated at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California and the Yonsei University in Korea. David served 16 honorable years as a Morse Code Operator, Korean Linguist and Interrogator. He supervised a team of 15 soldiers in all aspects of strategic debriefing of North Korean defectors. David was a part of the 102nd Military Intelligence Battalion, the 14th Military Intelligence Battalion, and the 201st Military Intelligence Brigade at Fort Lewis.

David was awarded with the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Army Achievement Medal (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Non-commissioned Officer’s Professional Deployment Ribbon with Numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Bar.

After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1996, he spent 24 years as a remarkable sales associate in various home stores. He loved nature and shared his love of it with his family. He was an honorable and patriotic man, a loving grandfather, father, brother, uncle, and son.

David is preceded in death by his fathers Edward Sharp and Marvin Kempf, and brother Mark. David is survived by his former wife Un Suk, two daughters Jacquelynn and Grace, a son Matthew, two grandsons Levi and Logan, mother Betty, stepmother Sally, brother Steven, sister Judith, nieces Katie and Shari, and nephews Troy and Chris, all of whom will miss him very much.

David is cremated and will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 9:30 AM. Remembrances can be left on the andersonunderwood.com website where a guestbook can be signed and sympathy cards can be sent to the family.
