Robert J. Sushka

Robert J. Sushka, 74 of Cumming, GA passed away on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020 from Covid-19. Bob was born May 31, 1946 in Martins Ferry, OH to Ted L. Sushka and Betty Scotka Sushka. He joined the Navy after graduating from Martins Ferry HS and was assigned to the USS Ajax (AR-6) stationed in Sasabo, Japan during Viet Nam where he achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Upon release from Active Duty he moved to Marietta, OH where he met and married, the love his life, Libby Cole.

Bob and Libby started their lives together in Marietta, Ohio, eventually making homes in also in Tennessee, and Georgia. Bob made many friends along the way and was involved in local Lions Clubs and American Legions, choosing to retire in Cumming, Georgia.

With retirement, came more golf, great times with old and new friends, motorcycle trips and time with his four grandsons and family. He traveled to China, cruised the Baltic's and spent time in the Caribbean. There was always a beer close by and lots of laughter. Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years; Children Karrie (Jim) Fuerst of Cumming and Tiffany (Joe) Popp of Buford; four grandchildren Ryan Fuerst, Evan Fue IL; Sister Shirley Sushka of Shadyside, OH, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob will be cremated with an internment at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on August 31, 2020 at 1 p.m. A funeral procession will start at Flanigan's Funeral Home in Buford, GA. Please arrive no later than 10:45 a.m. as the escorted procession will depart at 11:00 a.m.

The family is very, very concerned about the spread of Covid-19 and understand if you choose not to attend. A celebration of Bob's life is planned on his birthday in May and we hope that you can attend then to share stories and smiles remembering this great man.
