William Howard Gardner

Obituary Date: Saturday, August 22, 2020

William Howard Gardner, age 91, formerly of Gainesville, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living in Dacula, GA.

 

Howard was born on June 7, 1929, in Cherokee County, Alabama, to the late William Cazy and Annie Ruth Langston Gardner. After four years of service in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, he used his GI bill to attend night school at the University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business. He owned and operated Computer Systems and Solutions, Inc. with his daughter Cheryl for 25 years. Howard's passion was teaching the gospel to others as a Sunday school teacher until the age of 85. He not only loved to fish, but he loved teaching others how to be fishers of men. He was a true patriarch of his family who kept the faith and was an everlasting influence in the family that he built and the community that he served. 

 

He was a member and Sunday School teacher at Gainesville First Baptist Church, Avondale First Baptist Church, Buford First Baptist Church, and Lakewood Baptist Church where he was a charter member.

 

Howard was preceded in death by his son, William Christopher Gardner and his brother, James Lester Gardner.

 

Survivors include wife, Amanda Waters Gardner; daughter and son in law, Cheryl Gardner and Donald Tatum; sisters, Evelyn Woodruff and Vivian Martin; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives also survive.

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24th at Ward’s Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

 

Funeral services will be held graveside at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA on Tuesday, August 25th at 11:00 am with Rev. Bruce Fields officiating.

 

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street NW,  Gainesville, Ga 30501 in Howard’s memory.
