James Willie Threatt, Jr., better known as “Pops” age 81, of Cumming, formerly of Roswell, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Elizabeth Threatt; wife, Mary Alice Threatt, aka “Meme”.
James was born in raised on Riverside Road in Roswell, Georgia. He built his family and his business on the Chattahoochee River. In June of 1958, he started ACE Sand Company and married Mary Alice Threatt. They were married for 43 happy years. In 1973, he opened Shakerag Sand Company in Forsyth County and shortly became known as “The Sandman”. James was passionate about farming, his family and his friends. He was a true southern gentleman and he showed the love of Jesus everywhere he went. James lived big and he loved Big - making a lasting impression on everyone he came in contact with.
Survivors include his children, Jimmy Threatt and Sam Walker of Cumming; Lollie and Dan Elliott of Dawsonville, Celeste Whitt of Cumming; Jackie and Kevin Arnold of Cumming; grandchildren, Sheena Elliott, Daniel and Kadi Elliott, Zachary Whitt, Spencer and Morgan Arnold, Harrison, Magie and Macie Arnold; great grandchildren, Waylon Whitt, Harley Whitt, Walker Arnold and soon to be Theodore Elliott; sister, Neal Davis of Roswell; brother, Thomas Aubrey Threatt of Hoschton; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive along with Maxine Little, a special friend, and many others.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm at The Reid Barn, 6844 Majors Road, Cumming, GA 30040. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roswell, GA.
