Pastor Hazell Quarles

Pastor Hazell Quarles 77 of Anderson South Carolina passed away Wednesday August 5th. Hazell was born on June 2, 1943 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Hattie and R.T. Quarles. He was educated in Westside High An Early College Academy. He Studied at Estonia Bible College of Theology, Beulah Heights University and Anderson University. 

Hazell had 3 children from his first marriage. On April 13, 1996, Hazell married Abigail Elaine Terry in Anderson, South Carolina and gained 2 children in his marriage. He loved his 6 kids with pride and joy. Hazell was a devoted husband, father and believed in keeping the family together by any means necessary. He loved his members of his church and treated them as his family. Hazell was a family man who kept his family close. He always greeted everyone with a smile and was always available to help any and everyone. He made you feel like he had known you forever even if it was your first time meeting him. He loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing His word with anyone that he met. 

He began working at Owens Corner Fiberglass where he worked and retired at age 55 so that he could start preaching full-time at New Salem. His early pastoral career he was pastoring at a Church in Fair Play SC and at New Light Baptist Church in Lavonia Ga. Hazell began preaching at New Salem Baptist in September 1990 where he served as Senior Pastor for 29 years until he was called home on August 5, 2020. 

Hazell leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife Abigail Elaine Quarles; his sons Jerry Quarles (LaTasha); Adrian Barton and two daughters Jacqueline Quarles and Vera Quarles Rainey (Donnie) and his children of Elaine, Corey Terry and Youlanda Terry Garner; his grandchildren that he raised Demetrius Quarles (Shanice) and Keisha Quarles; Serena Quarles; one brother Theodore Quarles and two sisters Vera Thomas and Lera Davis; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren whom he loved and cared for passionately and a host of relatives, church family and friends. 

There will be a visitation for Pastor Quarles Saturday August 15th at his church New Salem Baptist Church between the hours of 12-8pm. His Celebration of life Sunday August 16th at Memorial Park North Chapel at 2pm. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
