Vernon “Vern” Harrison Durham

Mr. Vernon “Vern” Harrison Durham, age 94, of Gainesville, where he resided the last 6 years, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Amber Glen Assisted Living.

The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2020 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.  Vernon will be inurned at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Zephyrhills, Florida beside his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris.

Mr. Durham was born August 15, 1925 in Wilma, New York, as the third child and first son to the late Ceylon Melvin and Celia Mae Durham.  In 1945 he married the love of his life, Doris.  He retired from S M Flickinger Company, of Cheektowaga, NY, after many years of service.  Wanting to be near their grandchildren, they moved to Zephyrhills, Florida, where they resided until the death of Doris in 2004.

Vernon is survived by 3 daughters, Sandra Marie & Robert Hester, Elaine Nanette & James Curtis and Sheila Mae Perine; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Marguerite Traver; brothers, Edward and Ceylon Durham; and many nieces & nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Doris Mae Durham; daughter, Karen Lucille Durham; parents, Ceylon & Celia Durham; sisters, Mildred Hubbard, Keitha Webb, Marie Parmalee, and Hazel Vandenberg; and brothers, Donald Durham, Martin Durham and Clayton Durham.
