Mr. Joseph Chandler Anderson, age 81, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, July 31, 2020.
He was born on June 19, 1939 in Clermont, Georgia to the late Robert “Bob” Anderson and the late Onie Bryan Anderson. On July 4, 1967 God joined Chandler and his “Little Bride”, Brenda Gilbert Anderson, together as husband and wife.
Mr. Anderson was known to most as “Chandler”, “Daddy”, and “Pawpaw”. He will always be remembered in Lumpkin County and surrounding communities as a honest, fair, and selfless hardworking family man with a sweet and gentle spirit. Chandler was a self-employed painter and he put his hard work and craftsmanship into many residences in and around Dahlonega. He was a proud ordained minister of the Baptist faith. He was ordained on July 10, 1993. He performed several weddings, funerals, and christenings to the sweet souls that he was blessed to have as friends and family. Chandler was a charter member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and the former pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Chandler spent a lot of his time at Ball Mountain Campground in Hiawassee ministering to any ear his voice would fall upon. Not only was Chandler a fisher of men, but also of the fish in the lakes and streams. He always enjoyed being in God's great outdoors, whether it be fishing, deer hunting, or just walking around the campground ministering.
In addition to his parents, Chandler is preceded in death by his son, David Anderson; brothers, James Anderson, Robert Anderson, and John Henry Anderson; and first wife, Mary Sullens.
In addition to Brenda, his loving wife of 53 years, he is survived by his children, Sandra (James) Brady of Dahlonega, Michael R. (Marti) Anderson of Dahlonega, Lorrie (Mark) Caruana of Dahlonega, and Clint (Amy) Anderson of Gainesville; and brother, Alton Anderson of Columbus. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, adopted grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, and on Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM. A going home celebration will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home with Rev. Michael McIntire and Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Solid Rock Baptist Church.
