William Scott Crain

Obituary Date: Wednesday, July 29, 2020

William Scott Crain, known by many he loved as Scott, 59. Succumbed to complications of Covid-19 to be with his heavenly father on July 29, 2020. Though the tenuous and unusual times presented challenges, he was able to meet that moment of transition from this life to the next with the loving and tender company of his daughter, with immediate family in close proximity outside Northeast Georgia Medical Center. As much as he was a native of Gainesville, GA, his life would end in the same city and county he largely established his roots in.

Scott was born on December 9, 1960 in Gainesville, GA under the parents of William Kenneth Crain and Evelyn Hawkes Crain. He was fortunate to have a not just a brother, but a bond that had no boundaries in Martin Stacey Crain. To Scott family was more than just blood, he found joy in loving others who did not know Christ and those who the Lord has called them to be children of God. Through the years of growing up in so many ways, Scott was able to find the love of his life in Anastasia Alexander Crain, Stacey. On April 23, 1983 they happily got married; subsequently in the years following having a daughter in Melissa Claire Crain, Claire and a son in William Alexander Crain, Will.

Through the years, ministry involvement for Scott has been extensive in the local church in various ways with Woodlawn Baptist Church, West Hall Baptist Church, Pinecrest Baptist Church, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church recent. Ministry activities involved largely participation as music minister, children’s ministry, and of course, a very special place in his heart, special needs ministry. That last ministry a response of unimaginable personal impact due to his son Will who experienced complications as a newborn and subsequently needing a liver transplant. From those complications, Will was impacted in so many ways from the norm; however, by God’s grace he is a testament of his love. Scott took all those moments, reflecting on hope instead of despair. He grasped on Christ, his rock, and anchor through the storms, working all those moments into good. Just like the Lord works all things for his good.

He had various jobs over the years from Frierson-McEver Menswear, W. S. Crain’s Menswear, Jim Hardman GMC Car Sales, Riverside Pharmacy, and Hall County Parent Mentor. Particularly with his position as Hall County Parent Mentor, he navigated with so many families who were seeking assistance with special needs. The relationships he formed during his various careers are countless as well as those he established through one of his other passions Special Olympics. In this area many would recognize his effort being above and beyond the call of duty, because it was a privilege. Scott was a master of none, but he was gifted in so many areas. Those gifts allowed him to reach beyond what was possible or the status quo because he had Jesus with him.
