Evelyn Allen Jones, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 24, 2020. Evelyn was the daughter of the late George and Nellie Allen of Cleveland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. Jones and grandchildren, Matthew Patrick Jones, and Kathryn Faith Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jones Howard, Dahlonega; her son, David Leland Jones, (Kathy), Gainesville; and her daughter, Regina (Gina) Jones Armistead, (Michael), Cashiers, NC; her grandchildren, Audrey Berzack, Dahlonega, Emily Jones, Gainesville, Daniel Jones, (Jill), Cumming, Andrew (Drew) Jones, (Abbie), Dahlonega, Christopher Armistead, Seattle, WA, and Kevin Armistead, Chicago, IL. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Nathan Berzack, Max Berzack, Dalton Jones, Finley Jones, and Hallie Jones. Other family members she is survived by include her sister, Jessie Allen Cannon, numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
She went to Young Harris College and graduated from North Georgia College with a degree in Education. Evelyn taught high school English beginning at the old Flowery Branch High School in 1949 and finished her teaching career at South Hall High School in 1969. Her students always loved her classes saying she was a tough teacher, but always nurturing and fair.
She was actively involved in Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church her entire adult life whether teaching Sunday school, helping with Vacation Bible School, holding various offices in Presbyterian Women in the Church, or playing the organ for numerous years. If the church doors were open, it was likely that Evelyn, Ray, and the family were there as faith was of utmost importance to her and was the guide with which she lived her life.
Condolences to the family have included remembrances of her as a gentle spirit, a loving and caring person, someone who always knew when a supportive phone call was needed, a gracious and elegant lady, a great role model, an example of humbleness and kindness, and the list goes on. She will be especially missed by her family, but we have wonderful memories of the woman she was to us and to the community around her as a reflection of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Open Arms & Loving Hands for their caring support for the last eight years.
The family will be having a private graveside funeral service led by the Rev. John Batusic.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorial gifts should be sent to Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church, PO Box 7280, Chestnut Mountain, GA. 30502.
