Robert Ulysses Benson, 70, of Dawsonville passed away Monday July 27, 2020 following a period of declining health.
Born August 29, 1949 in Huntington, Virginia, Robert had been a resident of Dawsonville for the past 20 years. Alongside his family, he was a hard-working pastor who founded The Soul Filling Station, Dawson Christian Academy and Dawson Community Food Bank. Mr. Benson was a master stone mason who also enjoyed crafting custom bamboo fishing rods and was a published writer in Field and Stream Magazine. A loving and devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather, he was a mentor and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ulysses Benson and daughter, Anita Faith Jones.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Linda Benson; children, Hope and Jesse Chism, Charity Hall, Rebecca and Kenneth Krantz, Sam and Dina Benson, Ronald and Angie Jones, Jason Morrison, Shawn and Jackie Hall; mother, Sylvia Morrison Benson, all of Dawsonville; 18 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 31, 2020 at The Soul Filling Station at 2 p.m. Pastor Jesse Chism will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday July 30 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Friday July 31 from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at The Soul Filling Station.
