Virginia (Ginny) Young

Virginia “Ginny” Young, age 76, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020.

Mrs. Young was born on May 15, 1944 in White County to the late Louise Head Purcell. She was a longtime faithful member of Cleveland United Methodist Church and also an avid supporter of the Charles Smithgall Humane Society.  Ginny also served on the Board of Trustees for the Cleveland Historical Cemetery. Mrs. Young, as she was known to her students was a long-time third grade school teacher for the White County School System and later served as President of The Retired Educators of White County. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Heather Young.

Ginny devoted her life and love to the raising of her daughter, Ashli and supporting her husband Edward in his vocation and also his 47 years of service to the City of Cleveland, as a councilman.  This love is evident in the joy that Ashli shares with all who have the pleasure of having contact with her.  

Survivors include her husband, Edward Young; daughter, Ashli Young; and aunt, Barbara Head, all of Cleveland. One of the things Ginny epecially enjoyed was getting her “cousins” together at any opportunity.  She is survived by these first cousins, Steve Mauney, Doug and Kay Head, Allen and Susan Head, Emily and John Bracewell, Tarp and Desiree Head, Bob and Joy Parks Head, Wesley and Laura Head, Angie and Skip Purcell, Anita and Brian Neal, Tony and Sheril Swanson, Phil and Judy Holcomb, Vicki Lingerfelt, Robert Gilmore, Michael and Jackie Gilmore. Ginny is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Liz Young, Phil and Melanie Young and by numerous other relatives.

Private graveside services will be held at Gateway Memory Park. Mrs. Barbara Head will officiate.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
