Edward Terrence “Terry” Gaither was born on March 6, 1951 in Lula, Georgia to the late James J. Gaither and the late Robbie Lou Gaither. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann Harrison; nephew, Tracey Gaither; and brother in law, William Ellison.
Terry dedicated his life at a young age to the Lord and Savior to Springfield Baptist Church. Later in life, his faith would lead him to the Catholic faith where he began to attend Christian Catholic Colleges.
Terry was the last Valedictorian from EE Butler High School graduating class of 1969. Terry was offered a full scholarship to some of the most prestigious colleges such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale, University of Notre Dame, and Morehouse, just to name a few. He chose University of Notre Dame, a private Catholic college. After one year of college, Terry enlisted into the United States Air force where he completed his tour of duty and studies. After his time spent in the Air Force, he decided to finish his education by attending Our Lady of the Lake University where he made the Dean’s List. He was also featured in Who’s Who among College Students. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and continued his studies at night to obtain his license as a Certified Public Accountant in 1979. Terry worked for many prestigious Accounting firms as a CPA such as Texaco Oil and Gas, The State of California, and The City of San Antonio. He was a member of the NABA (National Association for Black Accountants). Furthermore, Terry started his own Accounting firm in 1980 in Arlington, VA.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his wife, Debra “Nessie” Gaither; daughters, Cindy Gaither, Shameka Bouldin, and Shateka Williams; granddaughter, Destiny Bouldin; siblings, Zelma Gaither, Michael (Rosalind) Gaither, Elaine Ellison, and Trudi Gaither; special aunt, Allonia Moon; special niece, Japonica Gaither; special nephews, Joshua Gaither and Cordele Gaither; special friends, Nathaniel Shelton, Emily Bouldin, Dr. Dorothy A. Autry, Star Jones, and Gloria Sharpe; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday July 23, 2020 at 12 noon at Dexter T. Sims Mortuary, LLC in the Rev. Charlie, Jr. and Conchita Sims Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in The Georgia National Cemetery, Canton. Viewing will be Wednesday July 22, 2020 from 2pm-7pm. The family will receive family and friends from 5pm-7pm.
