June Frances Wood

Mrs. June Frances Wood, age 83, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020.

Mrs. Wood was born in Anacostia Heights, DC on January 14, 1937. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Norman Wood, mother Martha Vogel Wood, and son Charles Richard Wood. Mrs. Wood retired from the U.S. Army Ranger Camp Frank D. Merrill serving for more than 20 years. She was the secretary to several colonels over those years. In her younger years, she loved to roller skate and in her recent years, she became an avid reader. Mrs. Wood was a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Momom”.

Survivors include her son Ronald Carl Wood, Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law Randall Gene and Devra Wood, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law Renee and SMG Kevin Connel, Dahlonega; son and girlfriend Russ Wood and Margene Ann Kelso, Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law Mathew Glenn and Risa Wood, Auburn, and Christopher Joseph and Sheri Wood, Yorktown, PA; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at St. Luke’s the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Mathew Dalrymple will officiate. Mrs. Wood will be laid to rest beside her loving husband at The Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The family will receive friends 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the funeral home.
