Carolyn Towery Sheppard age 88 was called home to be with our Lord Jesus on Monday, July 6, 2020. She peacefully passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Carolyn was born March 31, 1932 as the only child of the late Clarence E. and Alma P. Towery of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Upon graduation from high school, Carolyn began work as a secretary for the Trust Company of Georgia in downtown Atlanta. She retired from the bank 43 years later as an Assistant Vice-President.
Carolyn was a long-time member of the choir at Indian Creek Baptist Church in Stone Mountain where she was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was quick to laugh. Carolyn never forgot a joke and always had a good one to share. She had a special gift for finding a way to smile and laugh that brightened everyone’s day. Carolyn was both wise and kind and sensitive to all. She would quietly reach out and respond to the needs of others.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lawrence Sheppard. They married in 1951 and remained in the Stone Mountain area for many years. After retirement, they built a beautiful home in the Land ‘O Goshen in Batesville, Georgia. Carolyn was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Batesville. Although they were not blessed with children, Carolyn and Lawrence were a blessing to many children. This includes the many nieces, nephews and other family members that survive her.
