Joseph “Joe” Minor Porter, Jr. age 95 of Chestnut Mountain entered heaven Saturday July 4, 2020 at the Bell Minor Nursing Home.
Joe was born April 9, 1925 in Dawsonville, Georgia to the late Joseph Minor, Sr. & Myrtie E. Whitmire Porter. He served his Country proudly in the United States Marine Corp having fought in World War II & the Korean War. He was retired as a salesman having worked for Lays, Edward’s Pie Company & Waffle House. He was of the Baptist faith but had attended Oakwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Bloodworth Porter; brothers, Rex Porter, Hoyt Porter & Marcus T. “Pete” Porter; sisters, Carrie Wallace & Lucille Chastain; great great grandson, Chance Porter Abernathy.
Survivors include, sons & daughters in law, Joseph Terry “Bucky” & Diane Porter, Jerry Michael “Bo” & Shirley Porter; grandchildren, Joseph Scott (Debbie) Porter, James Todd (Angie) Porter, Terry Rodney (Denise) Porter, & Jennifer Michelle Porter; great grandchildren, Samantha (Ricky) Sutton, Chris (Renee) Porter, Madison Porter, & Sabrina Porter; great great grandchildren, Laci Sutton, Joseph Watson Porter & Gavin Levi Whitehead; brother, Gene (Vickie) Porter; sisters, Ruby Dean (J.D.) Harley & Barbara (Jeff) Ivey; sisters in law, Laverne Porter & Christine Porter. A number of nieces, nephews & other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 7, 2020 at the Ward’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Porter & Rev. John Batusic officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Gardens, Commerce.
Due to the current pandemic Mr. Porter’s room will be open at 2p.m. Monday July 6, 2020 but the family will receive friends form 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
