Douglas L. “Doug” Thompson

Douglas L. “Doug” Thompson, 76, of Dawsonville passed away Friday July 3, 2020 at his residence following a short illness.

Born September 30, 1943 in Buford, Georgia to the late James L. Thompson and Mary Lou Keeling, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 27 years having moved from Snellville.  Doug worked for Kraft Foods for 25 years after which he was employed at Wrigley’s for 10 years before his retirement.  He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed music, wrestling, the beach and being outdoors.  A member of Antioch Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Morris Thompson.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita Garmon Thompson, Dawsonville; children, Juanita Sue Thompson, Hoschton, Douglas Remar Thompson, Pigeon Forge, TN; stepchildren, Donald and Carole Mason, Athens, Philip Mason, Columbia, Missouri, Eric and Miki Mason, Cleveland, Elizabeth and Nathan McFee, Mableton; step granddaughters, Misaki Mason, Minami Mason, Erika Mason, Carrie McFee, Jamie McFee; brother and sister in law, Larry and Lori Keeling.

The family respectfully ask that those attending the funeral and visitation adhere to the COVID-19 recommendations concerning social distancing.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 7, 2020 at 1 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church with the remains placed in state at 12:30.  Rev. Bobby Whitmire will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
