James Edward Burke

James Edward Burke, 74 was called to God’s Kingdom on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 while surrounded by his daughters.  Jim was a devoted father, beloved big brother and caring husband.  Jim served his country as an Officer in the US Army from 1967 - 1969, and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, he was the son of Leonard Joseph Burke and Nannie (Nancy) Kyle Godsey.  Jim played football for Carson Newman College and graduated from the University of Tennessee. Jim was an entrepreneur at heart and owned Burke Engineering, Inc.  Jim was a member of John’s Creek Baptist Church.

Jim is survived by his three daughters; Rebecca Smith, Julie Johnston, and Melissa Burnette, his siblings; William Burke, Linda Gallino, and Maryann Scolnick, six grandchildren, wife; Judy Burke, two step-daughters and six step-grandchildren.

A memorial will be held Monday, June 29, 2020 at the McDonald and Sons Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia. Visitation with family will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 PM and a Memorial Service from 6:00-7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association, https://www.heart.org
