Sylvester Gene Storey

Sylvester Gene Storey 64 of Gainesville passed away on Sunday June 7th.

Sylvester “Syl” Gene Storey was born in Hall County, Georgia on Thursday, September 1st, 1955 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph “Joe” Storey and Elizabeth Storey-Glasper of Gainesville, Georgia. He attended the great E.E. Butler High School and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1973. He later went on to continue his studies at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas.

For more than thirty (30) years, he was a hard worker at Georgia Power, where he later retired. A strong advocate for the disabled, Sylvester was currently employed at Public Disability Resource Center, Incorporation in Demorest, Georgia, where he served as a Peer Counselor. As a lover of sports, Sylvester has refereed and coach several little league basketball teams from, Boys Club, Hall County Boys and Girls Club, Hall County Recreation and Gainesville Park and Recreation. Many of his players still refer to him as “Coach” and always make mention of how he made a difference in their lives.

In 1975 he married the late Janice L. Malcom Storey and had three children, the Honorable Judge Kiesha R. Storey, of Atlanta, Georgia, KaShuna R. Storey and Keenan J. Storey, both of Gainesville, Georgia. A loving grandfather, he cherished and always doted on his three grandchildren, Kamden Myles Young and Kaiden Lorraine Allen of Gainesville, Georgia and Kampbell Janice Harris of Atlanta Georgia. On December 4, 2015, he married Mrs. Clora “Tammy” Storey of Gainesville, Georgia.

He will be most be remembered to family, friends and loved ones for being a beloved and dedicated Falcons Fan, taking pride in always staying true to his “Dirty Birds” whether win or lose. His love music, playing the trumpet, traveling, being bossy, sports and most of all spoiling his grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memories: brother, Troy (Bernice) Glasper of Jefferson; sisters, Belinda (Jerry) Rucker, Marsha Glasper, Lisa Glasper, Vanessa Wilcoxson and Romona Glasper all of Gainesville, Georgia; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special friend and brother, Frank Ducille of Atlanta, Georgia. Special thank you to the greatest physician to cross path with Sylvester, Dr. Bernardine King.

The vistiation for Mr. Storey will be Friday June 12th at Wimberly Funeral Home from 12-7pm. Mr. Storey’s service will be Saturday June 13th at Memorial Park (Main) at 11:00am. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
