John Earl Albee, 81, of Leesburg, Florida passed away Saturday, May 30, 2020 at home following an extended illness.
John was born on December 20, 1938 in Augusta, Maine. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 3 years of active duty as a Morse Code Interceptor Operator followed by 3 years in the Army Reserves. While serving, he received the prestigious expert rifleman badge.
Following his military service, he made his home in Connecticut and later moved to Georgia where he resided until moving to Leesburg, Florida in 1999.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Diana Auge Albee, son Russell (Delia) Rego, daughters, Tina (Scott) Jahnke and Terri (Danny) Underwood and a God Son, Seth Dowling. He also leaves behind 6 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Albee, mother, Anne Patten Whitford and 3 siblings.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Rifle Association. He was an active member of South Lake Christian Church, Groveland, Florida for many years. John enjoyed sharing his skills to improve the Church and his heart belonged to the Youth and young families of the Church.
Upon retirement from Georgia Power Company in 1993, he opened his own business, J & D Property Renovators in the Atlanta area. He was a master craftsman and enjoyed purchasing and renovating homes for resale. In 1999, he and Diana moved to Florida, settling in The Royal Highlands community where he continued his love for the construction industry for an additional 9 years by making templates for kitchens and bath cabinetry for Florida Designer Cabinets.
