Fletcher Elbert McCone of Cumming, Georgia, passed away at his home at the age of 80 on May 9, 2020. Fletcher was a loving husband, a graceful father, and a gregarious grandfather. He was a 44-year Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, and a devoted member of the Eastern Star for 43 years. He was born in Monticello, Arkansas on September 13, 1939, and was an Army veteran. He worked as a lead recycler and houseboat captain on Lake Lanier. Fletcher loved retirement: in his time, he and his wife, Margaret McCone, cruised often and traveled to 49 of the 50 states together. He also loved watching old Western movies, playing Freecell, Rummy, and MahJong, and loved YouTube. He was a huge prank master and loved making others laugh.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Ruth (Hart) McCone, his first wife of 42 years, Sue Broom McCone, daughter Allison Elizabeth McCone, and stepson Darrell Baxter. Fletcher is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Margaret Hall McCone, his daughter Laurie (Markus) Sanders, son Michael (Rhonda) McCone, and his grandchildren: Lisa and Matt Alexander, Ashli and Cody Price, Savannah Sanders, Noah Sanders, Miranda and Chandler Burnell, Taylor Baxter, Isaiah Sanders, Alexis McCone, Lapri Baxter, and Joeli Baxter. He also had two great-grandchildren, Mason Alexander and Katalina Sanders.
He loved deeply his entire life and we know that he touched so many lives. We hope those who wish to honor him will come join us in celebrating his love, life, and the best jokes he told.
