Mr. Charles R. Morrow was the sixth child of thirteen children born to the late John W. and Gladys (Vincent) Morrow. He was a native of Gainesville, GA and graduated as valedictorian of his class from Fair Street High School in 1941. After graduation, Mr. Morrow enlisted and served a tour of duty in the United States Army during World War II. After serving in the military for four and a half years, he attended and graduated from Morehouse College.
Mr. Morrow was a teacher and counselor in the Gainesville City School System. In 1970, he left the teaching profession to join the federally funded “Model Cities” Program as the Assistant District Director. He retired from this position after a period of eighteen years. Overall, his teaching career with the Gainesville City Schools and his administrative career with the City of Gainesville spanned thirty-eight years.
Mr. Morrow actively continued to contribute to the Gainesville Community after his retirement through his service of substitute teaching, mentoring, and volunteering. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and attended Faithful Christian Worship Center.
Mr. Morrow leaves to celebrate his life, a wife of nineteen years, Carol Ann Morrow; one sister, Bernice Austin; six children including Yolanda (Roger) Owens, Richard (Hiawatha) Morrow, Daryl (Michele) Hood, William (Melissa) Hood, Monja (Joseph) Randolph, Donna Hood; twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday May 04, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in The Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Due to the current global pandemic this will be a private service. The family will have a drop-in visitation on Monday May 04, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
