Emma “Inez” (Whitfield) Allen

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Emma “Inez” (Whitfield) Allen finally went home to Jesus, in her 100th year, on Tuesday, April 14th, 2020, at The Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, Georgia. She counted her blessings every day and “counted it all joy”. Her children called her “blessed” for she surpasses them all; far more precious than any jewel; she was a treasure to her whole family.

As a young woman Inez worked at the Gainesville Mill. She lovingly kept children in her home and would visit shut-ins and nursing homes; delivering “Home Life” magazines. A long-time member of Montgomery Memorial Baptist Church in Gainesville, she faithfully attended, serving the Lord alongside of her husband. She was always an encourager, giving testimony of her faith and understanding of grace. Her hands were rarely idle, busy at work, making each day count; “happiness is a choice that you make every day”.

Inez was born on December 7, 1919 in White County Georgia, to the late Joseph B. and Cora Whelchel Whitfield.

She married her beloved, late husband, of 71 years, William Herbert Allen in Walhalla, SC on September 10, 1937. Together they have four children; her greatest love was her family.

She was the beloved mother of Glenda Allen (Chatham) Morrow, husband Eli of Blairsville, Ga.; Stanley Allen, wife Lynda of Cleveland, Ga.; Faye Allen Jaro, husband Herbert, of Summerfield, NC. and Stephen (Steve) Allen of Blairsville, Ga.

She was the precious Grandmother to 8 granddaughters and One grandson; 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Together, Inez and Herb left a wonderful heritage and legacy behind.

“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.” Exodus 23:20

Inez is predeceased in death by her beloved husband “Herb”; her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida Belle and Carl Fowler, Lillie Ruth and Clyde Anderson Stewart; Dola Theodosia and Dee Washington Seay; brothers, Jay B. Whitfield; Jesse Ray Whitfield Sr.; son-in-law, Fred Chatham; and daughter-in-law Joan Allen.

She is survived by all of her children and theirs; sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Whitfield of Flowery Branch, Ga.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

McDonald & Son Funeral Home of Cumming, Ga. is overseeing arrangements and her body will be interred in a private family service at Memorial Park in Gainesville, Ga. on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 12pm.

Officiating the service will be Pastor John Kinsey of Harmony Hall Baptist Church, Gainesville, Ga.
