A Jefferson man was killed and a Gainesville man was injured in a two-vehicle collision southeast of Gainesville Thursday afternoon.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said investigators determined J. Jesus Linares, 56, of Jefferson, was driving a 2009 Nissan Sentra eastbound in the westbound lane of Athens Highway on U.S.129 when he struck a 2013 GMC Sierra head-on near Morgan Drive at around 1 p.m.

Linares and the pick-up truck driver, identified as Reginald Borders, 61, of Gainesville, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Linares was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to HCSO.

Linares was determined to be the at-fault driver in the collision. The northbound lane of Athens Highway was closed to traffic for around an hour while the accident scene was cleared.
