Four people were arrested in Forsyth County on Tuesday after allegedly trying to forge checks.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday a man was in the office of a Citizens Bank representative at the location off of Ga. 400 north of Cumming.
He was inquiring about suspicious bank activity from the day before, when he was asked if he had authorized a check payment of over $4,300.
The man said he had not and that it was fraudulent, and the bank employee called 9-1-1.
A deputy arriving on scene spotted a rental SUV attempting to leave in a hurry.
The deputy stopped the vehicle, and three men were taken from the vehicle and held for an investigation.
A deputy entered the bank where 45-year-old Kenneth Robinson was waiting for the fraudulent check to be cashed, not aware of what was happening to his three accomplices outside.
In their investigation, FCSO determined that on Monday the account owner was made aware that someone called in and provided his social security number and date of birth trying to get the phone number on the account changed.
A forgery was then attempted in Cherokee County, and one person was arrested on the scene.
The group of four men decided to go to Forsyth County to attempt Tuesday’s forgery of almost $4,000, and were reportedly successful at another Citizens Bank branch location.
The person who cashed the fraudulent check was identified as 38-year-old Marcus Riggins, who was in the rental SUV. The other two were identified as 35-year-old Demarco Marshall and 53-year-old Eric Hilliard.
The account owner confirmed the falsified check numbers were still in his checkbook.
All four men remain in the Forsyth County Jail without bond on a felony charge of forgery in the third degree.
