White Sulphur Road railroad crossing projects to restrict traffic flow next week

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Hall County officials are advising commuters that a popular railroad crossing will be blocked from traffic for the evening and overnight hours next week.

A press release from Hall County Government says beginning August 25, the White Sulphur Road railroad crossing near Sargent Road will be temporarily closed until August 30. Motorists in that area are encouraged to use the main detour of Cagle Road to State Route 365. However, the county has worked with Norfolk Southern and the Georgia Ports Authority to temporarily reopen the White Sulphur Road railroad crossing at the Blue Ridge Connector (Inland Port) during peak traffic hours as an alternative.

Officials and workers will operate a single-lane, controlled access point at the Blue Ridge Connector and White Sulphur Road railroad crossing. Controlled access will be operational from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. During the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., access will be closed, forcing drivers to use State Route 365 via Cagle Road and allowing for more controlled traffic flow during peak travel times.

Drivers are also advised that flaggers will be in place to help navigate the temporary reopening during operating hours, and detour signage will be posted starting Monday, August 25. Road resurfacing will take place from Sargent Road to Big Oak Road.

Anyone with further questions should contact Hall County’s Engineering Division at 770-531-6800. For more information on current road projects and detours, visit hallcounty.org.
