Football: Area teams use scrimmages for a final tune up

Final preparations for the 2025 high school football season opener continued this week, as 16 area schools will compete in controlled scrimmages beginning on Thursday. 

The scrimmage season officially began last week with Gainesville taking on McEachern.

The official start to the season is August 15 for most teams in Northeast Georgia. However, Buford will host Milton in a nationally-ranked showdown at the new Phillip Beard Stadium in Buford. The game will be televised on ESPN. 

Jacobs Media will broadcast three games next week: Franklin County vs. Chestatee (AM 550), East Hall vs. Banks County (FM 102.9), and Marietta vs. Gainesville (FM 94.5 & AM 1240). Our coverage begins with the Conditioned Air Systems Friday Game Night Tailgate show at 6 p.m.

Cherokee Bluff at Morgan County, 7 p.m.
Langston Hughes at Buford, 7 p.m.
North Forsyth at Dawson County, 7:30 p.m.
North Hall at Flowery Branch, 7 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGES, Friday, August 8
Banks County at Decatur, 7 p.m.
Commerce at Alpharetta, 7:30 p.m.
Fannin County at White County, 7:30 p.m.
Johnson at Lakeview, 7 p.m.
Pickens at East Hall, 7:30 p.m.
Union County at Chestatee, 7:30 p.m.
West Hall at Lumpkin County, 7:30 p.m.
