The National Weather Service warns that extreme heat and humid conditions are expected in north and central Georgia through Wednesday, with parts of northeast Georgia under a Heat Advisory through Tuesday night.
The NWS reports that as the heat wave continues, the organization expects heat index values of 103 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit, the highest temperatures of the summer in the state so far.
As of Monday morning, the advisory was extended to include Hall and Forsyth counties, after it was initially issued for Jackson, Barrow, Stephens, Banks, Franklin, Madison and Hart counties.
The advisory for northeast Georgia will be in effect from 11 a.m. Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday.
As the extreme conditions persist, NWS reminds residents that the weather could bring an increased risk of heat-related illnesses for those participating in outdoor activities, those who are pregnant or have a chronic illness, the elderly and children. Tempetures will reportedly not reach below 80 degrees at night, which could also create a risk for those without access to air conditioning.
NWS advises that residents stay hydrated, limit strenuous activities outdoors, use air conditioning if available and wear light weight and light color clothing throughout the week.
