By Jeremiah McBurrows Jr.

A woman was arrested on Wednesday morning by Stephens County deputies in connection with trafficking illegal narcotics.

Authorities said at 4:13 a.m., 53-year-old Georgie Dennis of Stephens County was reported by an anonymous 911 caller to have driven into their yard, claiming she was “being chased by police”. Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division deputies were then sent to investigate the situation.

While monitoring the areas in search of the woman, Dennis was reportedly observed in a blue Honda CR-V pulling out of a parking lot on Brookhaven Circle and swerving across the lanes multiple times.

When the deputies were able to pull the car over, the woman came to a stop in the middle of the roadway. Additional units arrived on the scene to assist the deputies in the traffic stop.

Dennis appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They also observed what appeared to be a homemade smoking device containing residue through the window of the vehicle.

Deputies then located approximately 15.77 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 1.6 grams of suspected fentanyl, six suspected oxycodone pills, seven grams of suspected marijuana, and packaging material, as well as $6,257 in cash.

Dennis was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Stephens County Jail. She faces three counts of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, three counts of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana (less than one ounce), Possession of Drug-Related Objects, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

Dennis remains in jail pending a bond hearing.
