A Hall County Planning Commissioner has announced his intent to run for the soon-to-be-open District 3 commission seat.
District 3 Planning Commissioner Stan Hunt spoke on WDUN's "The Martha Zoller Show" with Dr. Tom Smiley Tuesday morning, saying he will run for the District 3 seat on Hall County's Board of Commissioners. The seat is currently held by Gregg Poole, who announced recently that he plans to run for 9th District U.S. Congress.
Hunt will run as a Republican for the seat. Two other Republicans, Tyler Crawford and Steve Gailey have also announced their plans to run for the seat.
Hunt is a Lula business owner, operating The Cabinet Place off of Ga. 365 for 29 years. He said his experience on the planning commission has given him concerns about the state of the county government.
"I watched the day-to-day runnings of the government, the massive bureaucracy that we've grown into. I see redundancy, I see the government not serving the people anymore," Hunt said. "I think the government is running the government instead of the people running the government, and that's something that I want to do something about."
Hunt also expressed concerns about high property taxes in the county.
"I believe the families in North and East Hall deserve relief from property taxes. The county budget has grown significantly in recent years, yet much of that growth has not translated into better services," Hunt said. "We must prioritize smarter spending, cut waste,, duplication and return the savings to the taxpayers."
Hunt said he does not yet have a campaign website, but offered his personal phone number of 770-540-4425 as a way for those interested in his campaign to contact him.
