A fire in Dacula on Friday destroyed a home.
According to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, firefighters responded to a house fire on Evergreen Oak Way at around 11 a.m.
The caller reported seeing a fire on the back deck of a neighbor’s house that was spreading up the back wall.
Firefighters responded and reported flames from the attic spreading to the second level of a two-story, single-family home.
Due to structural collapse concerns, Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources responded with demolition equipment.
No injuries were reported and no one was home at the time of the incident, but family pets perished during the fire.
The homeowner was reportedly running an errand with his family and returned to the firefighters trying to save his home.
The two adults and three children declined Red Cross assistance and will be staying with family members.
Gwinnett Fire says the cause is accidental and related to discarded smoking materials.
