Hall authorities warn of increased traffic around Road Atlanta ahead of weekend events

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

With Drift Atlanta and Gridlife events coming to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in the Chestnut Mountain area this weekend, Hall County authorities are warning patrons and residents of increased traffic in the area.

A social media post by the Hall County Sheriff's Office said the events are happening Thursday through Saturday, with heaviest traffic impacts on surrounding roads expected to start Friday.

The sheriff's office said it is preparing to re-route or detour traffic where necessary. The raceway's entrance is on Ga. 53/Winder Highway between Benefield Road and Ga. 211/Tanners Mill Road.

"Regular traffic on Winder Highway will be detoured each night beginning at 10:30 p.m. to accommodate for traffic leaving the raceway," the sheriff's office said. "Southbound traffic will be diverted to Ga. 211/Tanners Mill Road. Northbound vehicles will be directed to Benefield Road. The detour will last approximately two hours each night."

Authorities also said those going to the raceway may be diverted to alternate entrances as traffic begins backing up around the main entrance.

"Make plans to take alternate routes or allow time for delays if you routinely use Winder Highway near the racing complex," the sheriff's office said.
