Girls soccer: Johnson routs Chestatee in 6-3A; Lakeview stays unbeaten

GAINESVILLE, Ga. —Seven different players scored for Johnson, who routed Chestatee 10-0 on Friday in region 6-3A action the Lyn Cottrell Complex.

Bridget Higgins and Gissel Garcia each scored two goals to pace the Lady Knights (6-4, 4-2 Region 6-3A) as they led 10-0 at halftime.

Aylin Ponce-Lagos, Hailey Herrera, Angelique Zelaya, Genevieve Aguilar, Alondra Ruiz all scored once on the night.

Johnson next will close out its region schedule on Tuesday at The Dungeon against No. 1-ranked Lumpkin County.

Lakeview improved to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in region play with a win at home on Friday. 

Kendall Mathis scored first with a great individual effort beating three players and finally the goalkeeper. Mathis scored again off a deflection from a long Jalyn Purdy throw-in for a 2-0 lead.

Loganville struck next to make it 2-1, but the Lady Lions put together a stream of passes as Mathis found an open Eden Gonzalez at the top of the box, who finished with a shot right under the crossbar. Loganville scored again to send the game to halftime with Lakeview up 3-2. 

A defensive battle took over the second half, but defender Mei Mei Shen scored on a beautiful 25-yard shot off a rebound from a corner kick with about 10 minutes left to secure the victory

Lakeview plays again Tuesday at Rabun Gap before taking on region foe George Walton on Thursday in a battle for 1st place in the region.
